History of the Griffith Cup, the oldest perpetual trophy in Australian motorsport – 1910 to 2026 – here is a beautiful introduction written in 1971 for the EC Griffith Cup Program, hosted by the Victorian Speed Boat Club.
“There were no hydroplanes in the very early days but that did not detract from what was to become the greatest single event in Australian Motorsport for even at the breathtaking speeds of 25 m.p.h. their giant engines bellowed out the message as early as 1910 that powerboat racing was the worlds, most spectacular sport and these gigantic craft were there to provide that spectacle….. and provide it they did.”
